Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Enable and Use Motion Photo Feature in Camera App in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

Motion photo is a feature in the Camera app in Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge that will let you set your phone to record a short video clip of what happens before the picture is taken. If needed, you can control the playback so you can capture a moment within the playback you might have missed or capture the clearest moment within the playback when you're not satisfied with the picture of a moving object you have taken. When it comes to share, you can select to share the motion photo as an image file or a video file.

How to enable or disable the motion photo feature in the Camera app?
You can turn on or off this feature by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app.
  2. Tap  to open the detailed settings.
  3. Tap the ON/OFF switch next to Motion photo to enable or disable it. When the switch turns , means the motion photo feature is enabled and your phone will record a short video clip of what happens for a few seconds before each picture is taken.

How to use the motion photo feature in the Camera app?
As the example, we'll take a motion photo with the auto mode by using the following steps:
  1. Open the Camera app. By default it uses the rear camera with auto mode.
  2. Point the camera to the object.
  3. If needed, you can manually change the focus by tapping anywhere on the screen where the camera should focus.
  4. Tap to take a picture.
FYI, if you have difficulty when taking a picture using the on-screen icon, you can say the predefined voice command or press the Volume key as the alternative way to do so.
  5. Tap the preview thumbnail to view the picture you have just taken in the Gallery app.
  6. Tap the motion photo icon to play the video.
  7. If needed, while the video is being played, tap the screen to pause the playback. Tap to resume the playback, or tap Capture to take a screenshot of the paused playback displayed on the screen.
  8. If needed, you can share the motion photo to your friend or family with these steps:
    • While you're viewing the motion photo, tap Share.
    • Select Image file to share only the picture without the video, or select Video file to share only the video.
    • Select the required share method you want to use with and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.
