Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge: How to Create Folder in Home Screen or Apps Screen in Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow

If you have added a lot of apps shortcuts on home screen in your Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge or installed a lot of apps, you can make the way you access and launch apps with more quickly by creating a folder in the home screen or apps screen to gather similar apps in a single place. It will also can be used to simplify your home screen and apps screen as well as let you use another empty area to display more apps without you have to add more panels in home screen or use new pages in apps screen.


How to create a folder in the home screen?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. Go to the required home screen panel where you want to create a new folder in.
  2. Tap and hold an app shortcut and then drag it over another app shortcut.
  3. Release the app shortcut when a folder frame appears around the selected app shortcuts. A new folder contains with the selected apps shortcuts has been created.
  4. When needed, you can give a name for the folder by entering the desired name in the Enter folder name field and then tap Done button.
  5. When needed, you can change the background colour of the folder by tapping and then select the required colour you want to use.
  6. Press the Home button to view the folder.

How to create a folder in the apps screen?
You can do so by using the following steps:
  1. On the home screen, tap Apps at the bottom right corner to go to the apps screen.
  2. Tap Edit button at the top right to edit the apps screen.
  3. Tap and hold an app and then drag it over another app.
  4. Release the app when a folder frame appears around the apps. A new folder contains with the selected apps has been created.
  5. When needed, you can give a name for the folder by entering the desired name in the Enter folder name field and then tap Done button.
  6. When needed, you can change the background colour of the folder by tapping and then select the required colour you want to use.
  7. Tap Done button at the top right to save the changes.

By default, your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge displays icons only on the home screen and apps screen. But, if you have updated your phone to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, you can turn on the icon backgrounds feature to make those icons become more stand out by displaying them with shaded background.


How to enable the icon backgrounds feature?
You can turn this feature on by using the following steps:
  1. On any screen, swipe down the top of the screen to open up the notification panel and then tap to go to the settings menu.
  2. Scroll down the screen until you find Display and then tap it.
  3. Tap Icon backgrounds.
  4. Select Icons with backgrounds to have your phone displays icons with shaded background to make them stand out on the home screen and apps screen and then tap Done button to save the changes.
  5. You can press the Home key to return to the home screen and see the changes.

By default, you can rearrange apps in the apps menu manually so you can have your apps list in random order. But, if your Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge has been updated to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, you'll have the A-Z sorting feature that can be used to sort the list of your apps in the apps menu in alphabetical order. Sorting the apps alphabetically will help you find an app with more easily. Unfortunately, if you want to keep the list of your apps in this order, you have to sort the list again after installing or uninstalling and disabling or re-enabling any app.


How to sort the list of apps in alphabetical order?
You can use the A-Z sorting feature to sort the list of your apps alphabetically by using the following steps:
  1. While you're in a home screen, tap Apps at the bottom right corner of the screen to go to the apps menu. All your apps will be displayed here.
  2. Tap A-Z at the top of the screen.
  3. A pop up window will appear to inform you that the list of your apps will be rearranged in alphabetical order and any customizations you have made will be discarded. Tap the OK button to continue.
  4. The list of your apps in the apps menu will be sorted alphabetically.
